During Edward’s documented intracranial-pressure crisis, Eleanor recognized that his symptoms were more severe than his usual seizure pattern and took him to Johns Hopkins. She coordinated with Dr. Julia Weston, advocated for Edward’s medical and sensory needs, and remained at his bedside through surgery and the early recovery period.

Eleanor also supported James while he was away at theater camp. After four days at the hospital, exhaustion and fear left her unable to continue without rest; Julia stayed with Edward while Eleanor returned home.

Published Advocacy

Eleanor later wrote ‘’What Marriage to an Autistic Savant Really Looks Like (And What People Think It Is)’‘. The article challenged ableist portrayals of Edward as a burden and rejected the idea that Eleanor’s marriage made her heroic or self-sacrificing.
